Contractors, we need your opinion on the Education Classes

United Contractors of Utah is looking for your feedback regarding the Continuing Education Classes required for Licensed Contractors. The specifics we need are:

What classes you took?
Were they helpful and educational for you in your profession?
Was the cost of the class reasonable?
Would you recommend them for other contractors?
What other issues do you feel United Contractors can and should do to preserve the independence and profitability of Contractors in Utah?

Our focus is not to do away with education, but we are galled by the Utah Home Builders Association and those others who are taking control of away from the proper government agencies to line their coffers and increase their own influence at our expense. Your input is needed to refine the vision of United Contractors of Utah and enable us to be effective in this campaign.

Most online courses offered with unlimited credits at reasonable price. Online courses feature "Instructor-connect program" for you to interact with an online teacher that will guide you through the exam.; August 18, 2011 at 4:36 AM

United Contractors of Utah is a grassroots organization devoted to preserving the integrity and independence of Contractors in the State of Utah. It was started by Troy Council, Norm Thomas and David Mefford in an effort to bring awareness of these important issues.

There are forces afoot in the Legislature scheming to gain control of and profit from contractors. These forces are neither defined nor acknowledged in the legislation. Leading the charge is Taz Biesinger, Executive Vice President of the Utah Home Builders Association. He is supported in the Legislature by Rep. James Dunnigan. As the identity of other players becomes clear they will be publicized in this web page.

Their plans include requiring education classes that milk money from licensed builders and dictating requirements State-wide for licensing. Rather than being controlled by the Department of Occupational and Professional Licensing, these private trade organizations would set the standards DOPL would enforce.

They appear to be behind the Lien Recovery Program that changed the lien laws from a devise contractors could use to collect money owed them, to a group insurance fund that compensates contractors and leaves the debtor unaccountable for payments. Even the instructors of these classes can not explain the program and how it benefits contractors.

This page is designed to expose their plans and create an open dialog to help the Utah State Legislature service the needs of professional contractors instead of promoting and preserving the narrow interests of trade organizations.
